Emerging Markets performance over 1 and 12 months
Highlights from Barings for emerging markets ( which will have an effect on emerging market funds and emerging market etfs) show that:
Investor appetite forĀ emerging markets assets improved noticeably over the course of February 2010. Statistics confirmed that the major emerging markets of the Asia-Pacific are recovering. The strength of the Brazilian economy has enabled the central bank to end emergency measures. Investor sentiment towards Central and Eastern Europe was clouded by the ongoing financial problems of Greece.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development confirmed that it will likely invest at least as much as it did in 2009 in the coming year.
Various developments during the month were consistent with the favourable long-term trends and themes in the Middle East and North Africa, the so called MENA area, which has also seen the rise of specific emerging market MENA funds.
The MSCI emerging market index for various regions is also quite interesting.
Over the last 12 months the MSCI emerging markets index is up 87.5%, but over the last 3 months is down 1.8%.
